Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic said that today, the number of new coronavirus cases will be the highest ever recorded in Serbia since the beginning of the pandemic.

"According to data from this morning at 8 am, the numbers will be catastrophic," she told TV Prva and added that every record so far will be broken.

When asked why the Crisis HQ did not bring new measures, Brnabic stressed that Serbia has epidemiological measures: masks that are obligatory indoors, as well as outdoors where distancing is impossible, there is also the Covid pass that is required from 8 pm. She added that Covid passes are being used more and more, as was the case when Novi Sad was declared the European capital of culture.

"We have all the vaccines, we have the medicine. We can help others, and we are helping the region, some EU members, the countries of Africa and Asia. We have everything, and we are among the first to get it. Everything we could provide, we have provided," she said.

Speaking about schools, Brnabic said that the Ministry of Education is meeting today with the Crisis HQ for schools, and stressed that a recommendation should be made then.

According to the prime minister, it is expected that the youngest students (grades 1-4) will go to school normally, and that combined classes will be organized in high schools. However, she pointed out that a recommendation is awaited, and then a decision will be made later.

Computer science professor Petar Kocovic said yesterday that projections show the number new daily Covid cases in Serbia will reach 16,000.
