Virologist and microbiologist with the Veterinary Specialist Institute Milanko Sekler said that according to what he knows, Omicron is present in Serbia, while it is important to educate people so that they know where to wear a mask and where that is not needed.

Sekler told RTS that among the unvaccinated persons there are those who become infected several times in a couple of months, but that there are also vaccinated people who become infected twice in a short period of time.

He believes that the summer will pass without major infections, as in previous years, because people will spend most of their time outside.

"Since the weather will be nice, people are eager for outdoor activities, so there is less infection, but we'll see what happens next," said Sekler.

He recalled that he had been recommending the second booster dose, i.e. the fourth dose of the vaccine, for a long time to all those over 60 who are immunocompromised.

When it comes to the shutting down of Shanghai due to Covid, Sekler says that 100 million elderly people have not been vaccinated among the Chinese, that Omicron can be complicated for the elderly, and that is the reason for the closure.

"China is specific in many things, theya aren't giving up on the zero tolerance policy regarding the virus, regardless of the fact that they have asymptomatic cases. The older people did not all get vaccinated there, unlike Serbia, where the older ones were the most zealous in getting vaccinated," said Sekler.
