Negotiations between the Government of Serbia and Fiat workers regarding their status have not failed nor have they stopped, but they could be seriously disrupted if representatives of trade unions and workers violate the initial agreement and start a protest, the government told Tanjug today.

"The negotiations have not stopped and have not failed. Trade unions and workers' representatives are violating the initial agreement, which is that the Serbian government will come out with a proposal for workers who do not accept the program offered for after Fiat completes the process of registering workers for work abroad," they said from the government.

They recall that the deadline for registration of workers who wish to go abroad has been extended until Monday, June 20.

The Government of Serbia will come out with a proposal after that deadline expires, the government said.

Earlier today, media reported that negotiations with the Government of Serbia on the future of the company's workers had fallen through.

Some workers' representatives claim that the government could not fulfill their request, which was to come out with a concrete offer for employees who are made redundant by 11 am today, or agree on severance pay.

They stated that in the meantime, the employer has somewhat improved the conditions under which workers would spend two years working abroad in other Stellantis plants, in order to motivate them to apply, and that the deadline has been extended until Monday, June 20.
