The "old" Serbian Orthodox church in Mostar was vandalized early this morning.

Unknown perpetrators broke through the door of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, desecrated the altar, scattered objects around and robbed the shrine.

Money was taken from the box for contributions, as well from box of the charitable society Dobrotvor.

Apart from the church, the church store was also broken into and robbed.

The priest who came across this horrible scene early this morning called the police, who carried out an investigation, reports Srpskainfo.

The Serbian Orthodox Church Municipality of Mostar did not want to make a statement on this occasion, but only recalled that this is not the first attack on church property in Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina).

Last year, after a series of attacks on its property, the Serbian Orthodox Church Municipality of Mostar called on the competent authorities, above all the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton to urgently find the perpetrators.

At that time, they stated that the robberies took place in churches and parish homes in Mostar, Bijelo Polje, Blagaj, Zitomislic and other religious buildings in the area of the canton.

"Dozens of such and similar cases, whose perpetrators have not been discovered, bring unrest and insecurity to every pore of our community. We believe that this is not about outpourings of religious and national hatred and intolerance towards us and our community," they stated at the time, adding that by finding the perpetrators and shedding light on these acts, any doubt and assumption that this is in fact about national or religious hatred would be removed.

A month ago, the Orthodox cemetery in the Vihovici neighborhood of Mostar was desecrated when gruesome threatening messages and Ustasha (Croat WW2 fascist) symbols were written on the wall around the cemetery and on the entrance gate.
