The Serbian Orthodox Church, which is not registered as a company, is one of the most successful “businesses” in Serbia, and is in third place in Serbia based on the revenue, right after NIS and Elektroprivreda Srbije. Their annual revenue is 140 million euros, says Blic.

According to their research, the SOC in its 40 diocses reportedly collects 140 million euros annually, announced by Blic, in reference  to the insiders of the Church.

According to this newspaper, the money that the Church earns annually is used by bishops who, like real businessmen, invest it in new businesses and projects.

When it comes to the finances of the SOC, the public knows only a few details- according to the archbishop Amfilohije, the monastery Ostrog earned 2,4 million euros in 2014, and this year's budget for his Metropolitanate is 770,000 euros.

It is estimated that  better standing dioceses can earn annually around five million euros, and that the largest part of it is in cash, and a bishop is the only one who knows where that money would go.

A religious analyst Zivica Tucic, says for Blic that each diocese gets money from the Church.

– Each diocese has to set aside 4 per cent of their income for the Church Patriarchate. The main revenues are from the sale of candles, but also in the recent years, from their developing businesses. Part of the money is set aside for the construction of buildings whose purpose is not liturgical performance– he says.
