New series of earthquakes scared the residents of Macedonian capital, and some people started leaving Skopje

Moving of soil strength of 3.9 on the Richter scale has awakened people in Skopje this morning at 7 am, and even stronger earthquake of 5.3 on the Richter scale followed after that in 15:10 pm.

WARNING: This is where EARTHQUAKES are possible in Serbia!

The epicenter of the earthquake was seven kilometers from the center of Skopje, and was felt throughout Macedonia, Kosovo and Serbia.

According to Dragana Cernik from the Seismological Observatory, the earthquake of 5.3 degrees is one of the moderate earthquakes, unlike the disastrous one in 1963, which was classified as a class strong.

Asked whether even stronger earthquake can happen during the night or the day, Cernik admits that no one can predict that.

- We do not expect stronger earthquakes, only of there were some tectonic changes for which we do not know. From everything we know, the disastrous earthquake can not be repeated, but you never know, because it is very hard to recognize the soil activity. An earthquake measuring 4-5 degrees is repeated over a period of 10 years, and that just happened, and the catastrophic ones repeat once in every 500 years, said Cernik.

Earthquake that shook Skopje in 15 pm made people flee in panic from their houses and apartments. All parks and green areas around the buildings were full with people, and some, with small children, are leaving the city by car, tho the safety.

According to the information we have so far, the earthquake caused damage on houses and buildings, walls cracked in apartments, and even chimneys well down on some objects, on some roofs collapsed. There is damage in shopping malls, like Vero center and City mall where shelves with goods fell down, security ordered the shoppers to abandon the object immediately.

Moving of the soil caused many landslides, and because that, the road to seismological observatory stationed on the Zajcev rid hill is impassable.

Emergency teams had their hands full. People called searching for help caused by stress or elevated blood pressure, and many people asked for ambulance for injuries they received while running from their homes.
