Serbian army during World War I had won many battles over the Austro-Hungarians, and one of the secrets of victory was the healthy food they made in our ranks.

Perhaps the Austro-Hungarians had abundant meals, but our soldiers were living on - Tain. It is a mixture of white and rye flour, which could last long and to give strength and vitality in combat.

 

In simple words, it is a military bread, and everybody received 800 grams, it gave enough energetic value to the individual to withstand the greatest exertions.

 

But that is not all. In the victory of Serbian military in Battle of Cer, salty cheese, onions, peppers and beans were used.

 

At the end, it was all spiced with a very important "ingredient" - dry plumAustro-Hungarians gave auto goal when they prevented export of plum from Gornji Milanovac, which was used by Serbian Army later on.

On that 15.  August, Duke Putnik ordered counterattack, volunteers arrived from all parts of the country came to defend Cer.

 

They arrived on recruitment with pitchforks and axes, and in the night between 15th and 16th August 102 years ago, terrible clash started. Four days after, the moral of Austro-Hungarians dropped and they started retreating in their country. By 24th August, the fight was over and it was first major victory of the allies in the First World War...
