Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Traffic Police Administration, will conduct an operation of intensified traffic control from June 16 until 22 which will be aimed at detecting driving under the influence of alcohol and psychoactive substances.

As part of the operation, on Saturday, June 19, "Alcohol and Drugs Marathon" will be realized for the first time, when all available devices for detecting the presence of alcohol and psychoactive substances will be continuously deployed for 24 hours.

Driving under the influence of alcohol is one of the biggest traffic safety problems in most European countries, including Serbia. It is a misdemeanor which, along with speeding, contributes the most to causing traffic accidents and the severity of their consequences.

On the other hand, the offense of driving under the influence of psychoactive substances is on the rise in all European countries, while in Serbia the number of sanctioned drivers is almost three times higher than at the beginning of this year compared to the same period last year.

Since the beginning of this year, traffic police officers have excluded about 18,000 drivers from traffic for driving under the influence of alcohol and 700 drivers for driving under the influence of psychoactive substances.

The traffic police operation, will be carried out simultaneously in 30 European countries that are members of the ROADPOL (European Roads Policing Network) organization.
