Vucic announces that there is "general Omicron infection in Serbia"

The numbers show that there has already been an exponential growth. Last week, at 8 in the morning, we had 11.2 percent infected out of those who got tested, and today the number is 35 or 36 percent, in Belgrade even over 40 percent - said the president of Serbia

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said today that the health care system is currently under great pressure and that Serbia is now in a general Omicron infection.

"The numbers show that there has already been an exponential growth. Last week, at 8 in the morning, we had 11.2 percent infected out of those who got tested, and today the number is 35 or 36 percent, in Belgrade even over 40 percent," said Vucic.

He stressed that genome sequencing has been done on a sample of different structures in the population and that almost all of them are infected with this strain of coronavirus.

Vucic said that it started long before the New Year's parties and not because of certain gatherings, but that it started on December 24 or 25, when our people living abroad came back to the country" -  "either from Dubai, or the Western states."

Since then, we have seen an exponential growth in progression in the number of infected people, Vucic added.
