A Norfolk County grand jury charged Brian Walshe with three counts of indictment on Thursday, Norfolk County District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey announced.

The grand jury charged Walshe with murder, misleading investigators, and improperly conveying a human body.

In Massachusetts, a first-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

"Brian Walshe pleaded not guilty to the murder charge at his trial in the Quincy District Court in January. This indictment moves the case to the Norfolk Superior Court, and a new arraignment will happen in the coming weeks. The date has not yet been set," Morrissey said in a statement for Telegraf.rs.

The district attorney added that this is just one step in a long process, during which Brian Walshe enjoys the constitutional presumption of innocence and all the protections afforded to him by the Constitution.

"We are grateful to the detectives who put so many hours into gathering evidence in this case and to the witnesses who helped us get to this point," Morrissey concluded.

District Attorney Morrissey said his office will set a trial date as soon as it is completed by the Norfolk Superior Court.

Walshe remains in custody without bail.
