The Higher Public Prosecution in Pancevo has filed an indictment at the High Court in Pancevo against the defendant L.LJ. (33) from Nikolinci, on suspicion that he, starting in the second half of 2021 until November 17 of last year, recruited and then kept a man (52) and a woman (25) (captive) by abusing their difficult material and personal circumstances.

The suspect is accused of having undertaken the said actions with the aim of exploiting the victims for doing household work for him, in exchange for them paying off in reality non-existent debts. This resulted in a relationship similar to slavery, while the abuser maintained it by using force and threats.

He also took the money the two victims were collecting from the state via the welfare scheme.

The suspect now stands accused of having committed the criminal act of human trafficking perpetrated against two persons, and if found guilty, could spend between three and 12 years in prison.
