A bus belonging to the company MBM, which was transporting seventh-grade students from the elementary school Nikodije Stojanovic Tatko, caught fire today, near Boljevac.

Videos of the accident show the children leaving the smoking vehicle and getting to safety. Then the bus turned into a blaze and soon the fire engulfed the whole of the vehicle, leaving only the wreckage.

According to the local media, all the children managed to evacuate in time and are well. They were on a two-day excursion to eastern Serbia, organized by the Nis tourist agency Halo Travel.

The school says that the children are fine and that they got off the bus in time, but would not offer any other comments.

Aleksandar Paunovic, one of the parents who had already set out to pick up his child, said that the children were complaining of nausea, but that they all managed to get off the bus.

"While I was seeing my child off, I noticed that the bus was old, so I checked with the APR (Serbian Business Registers Agency) and the company was founded last year," says Paunovic.

He added that his child told him they had made stops several times since this morning when they departed on the field trip.

The director of the school, Ljubomir Vukicevic, was not responding to a local website's journalists this afternoon.
