Several city and municipal committees of the Socialist Party of Serbia, SPS, have adopted the proposal for party leader Ivica Dacic to be the SPS candidate for the president of the Republic.

That proposal was supported by SPS committees in Kragujevac, Valjevo, Grocka, Barajevo, these committees announced on social media.

Dacic previously stated that the SPS will participate in the upcoming elections in Serbia independently.

"For a long time we were participating in a coalition with our traditional partners, namely United Serbia and Greens of Serbia, and nothing has changed," said Dacic.

He added that it was agreed within the SPS that the party's municipal, city and district committees should submit lists of candidates for deputies in the Serbian Assembly, as well as candidates for the president of the Republic, no later than August 25.
