Dacic responds to opposition accusations about granting of Serbian citizenships, and election theft
Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dacic assessed that the hypocrisy of the "blockaders" and the opposition is increasing every day and that the false claims made by the president of the Movement for Decentralization of Serbia, Dragan Milic - that the SNS is preparing election theft, because in the last 10 years about 240,000 citizenships have been granted - are disgraceful.
"The hypocrisy of the blockaders and the opposition is growing every day. Proof of this is Dragan Milic's statement, who is telling lies that election theft is allegedly being planned, because 238,890 citizenships were granted in ten and a half years," Dacic stated on Instagram.
Dacic pointed out that between 2000 andmid-2012, 693,000 persons received Serbian passports.
"Judging by that, unreported election theft was committed during that time. Truly disgraceful claims, especially if you take into account that only 4,168 citizenships were granted this year before June 1," said Dacic.
He emphasized that these claims are particularly disgraceful towards the Serb people who live outside of Serbia and who want Serbian citizenship.
Dacic noted that citizenship is granted according to a law that DOS passed when it was in power, regulating the rights of persons of Serb origin.
Dragan Milic claims that the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) is "preparing an unprecedented electoral theft", and that the first step is "a fictitious voter roll with a huge number of fake citizens of the Republic of Serbia who were not born here and do not have permanent residence in Serbia".
According to media reports, Milic said that he received information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs that from January 1, 2015 until August 27, 2025, Serbian state authorities granted a total of 238,890 citizenships, on various grounds.
