Vucic says presidential elections in Serbia will be held by the end of December

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic resigned last night and said that by the end of December, in line with the Constitution and the law, presidential elections will be held in Serbia.

"So, by the end of December, we will have to hold presidential elections, the first round of presidential elections, and before that, as you know, we have parliamentary elections on October 25. Why did I do this? I could have gone to the elections as president of the Republic. Even my many friends, other presidents, asked me amazed: Why are you doing this? Why are you leaving office? No one has ever done that," said Vucic.

He added he told them he was doing it because he thought it was fair.

"For me, democracy as a form of political regime is very important. Tyranny in society is always talked about by those who run away from dialogue. Conformity is always talked about by those who most strongly advocate for conformity, and who never want to hear anyone who thinks differently. I also offered them dialogue four years ago, five years ago, three years ago, two years ago, and a year ago," Vucic said of his political opponents.

He pointed out that even today he accepted the invitation from RTS to debate two of them on his own.

"They both refused it, and tomorrow they'll tell you how they were not represented in the media and how they didn't have a chance to speak. But they all learned to punch the sack. Punching the sack is not democracy. It's not fair to punch the sack. If you want to participate in the game, if you want to go into the ring, be ready to take punches, and they learned that they strike, but that no one opposes them. That's why I accepted all those debates, and they refused them. That's why they never wanted to talk," said Vucic.

He added that they have nothing to offer and asked if it might be burning down buildings, beating people up, throwing stones and eggs at them.

"All in all, I am proud that, apart from the wounding of Mr. Bogdanovic, when a blockader shot him here in front of the National Assembly, and one stabbing, also in front of the National Assembly, where a blockader stabbed a man - I deliberately do not say his last name because he begged for it - that we got through this without most serious incidents. We went through numerous lies, numerous untruths," said Vucic.

He pointed out that he wants to go to the campaign out of the presidential office, and because he listened to the most terrible lies and untruths for 10 years.
