The number of new coronavirus cases is falling in Belgrade and in the whole of Serbia, and the coverage of immunization is growing day by day - that is good news, a member of the Crisis HQ, Dr. Predrag Kon, told RTS. He stressed that vaccination is the only way out of the epidemic, but also that citizens should not burden themselves by checking their antibodies, since that is only one of the indicators of immunity.

Epidemiologist and member of the Crisis HQ Dr. Predrag Kon told RTS that the epidemiological situation is better and that the decline in new cases is still being registered, which, as he stated, is a good indicator, as well as that there are no visible consequences of the recent combined holidays, which is good news.

"(The numbers) are similarly dropping in Belgrade, as well as in the whole of Serbia, which is also good news. The coverage with immunization is growing, that can be seen day by day, which is the third, perhaps the most important piece of news and the fact is that it's already clear that where the coverage is higher, the number of new cases is falling faster," Kon said.

He stressed that the only way out is to get vaccinated.

"The virus is in knockdown. Now is the time to drive it out of the country," said the epidemiologist.

Kon pointed out that "we have to resist this huge need to relax."

"That doesn't mean that we should not relax, that these favorable results and announcements will not lead to real relaxation," said Kon.

Speaking about receiving the third dose of the vaccine, Kon asked citizens not to go to (vaccination) locations and talk about it.

"I don't mean anything bad by it, but simply, not to waste time with the third dose, because we haven't yet administered the first or the second. What I said, that those who do not have antibodies will (again) receive the vaccine at some point in the future, that doesn't mean now. It must be evidence-based medicine, only when all the research is done, when it is determined when, how much time must pass," Kon stressed.

He added that measuring antibodies is only one of the indicators of immunity but not an indicator of complete immunity, that citizens are protected by vaccines from all manufacturers, and stressed that people do not have to burden themselves with checking their antibodies.
