Ivan Kontic remains in custody: The court is yet to confirm the indictment

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office charges Kontic with attempted murder, O.L. is charged with the crime of participating in a fight, and L.V. with the criminal offense of assisting the perpetrator after the commission of a criminal offense

The Higher Court in Novi Sad extended for another month the detention of Ivan Kontic, accused of theattempted murder of Miljan Mandic on August 24 last year in Novi Sad, who he battered.

According to this court decision, the detention can last until August 3, court spokeswoman Jelena Ostojin told Tanjug.

As for the indictment filed against Kontic on May 5 by the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad, the court has not yet made a decision to confirm it. The indictment also concerns O.L. and L.V.

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office charges Kontic with attempted murder, O.L. is charged with the crime of participating in a fight, and L.V. with the criminal offense of assisting the perpetrator after the commission of a criminal offense.

Kontic was extradited to Serbia from Montenegro in December, after he was arrested in Podgorica October 11 on a warrant issued by Serbia, a month after the initiation of proceedings against him on September 12.

During the hearing before the pre-trial judge concerning the circumstances of his detention and escape, Kontic claimed that he did not flee Serbia, but went to Montenegro before any proceedings were initiated against him.

Presenting his defense before the Higher Public Prosecutor, he in December denied that he tried to kill Mandic, whom he battered.

The clash occurred because Mandic allegedly threatened him and did not allow him to enter a betting parolor. As a former member of the Montenegrin national judo team, Kontic knows how to inflict severe, life-threatening injuries, and he did not inflict them on Mandic during the actual physical confrontation, as his defense states.

His defense also claims that the entire recording of the fight has not been published, but only a part of it, after which this procedure was initiated against Kontic.

The video appeared on social networks on September 11, and shows a man getting severely beaten up.

Kontic is originally from Niksic, Montenegro, graduated from the Faculty of Law in Serbia and worked as a trainee in a law firm before the incident in which he beat Mandic (28) in Jevrejska Street in Novi Sad.
