Serbian Orthodox Patriarch Porfirije tests positive for coronavirus

He has mild symptoms of a viral infection

Patriarch Porfirije is positive for coronavirus and he will spend the next few days receiving treatment at home.

The patriarch was tested for coronavirus today, and in accordance with the doctor's recommendations, will rest at home in the coming days.

"Considering that the result of today's testing of His Holiness the Patriarch of Serbia Porfirije for the SARS-CoV2 virus has been positive, in accordance with a certain protocol and the doctor's advice, the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church will spend the coming days on home treatment," the Serbian Orthodox Church announced.

A statement added that the patriarch has very mild symptoms of a viral infection.

"He has been prescribed appropriate therapy and respects all epidemiological measures. Through electronic communications, he is constantly in touch with associates and performs administrative tasks completely uninterrupted. He has also not stopped supporting the doctors and thge medical staff in their work with his prayers, and he especially prays for the healing of all those affected by the epidemic. The patriarch expresses regret that public events which he was supposed to attend have been postponed until further notice."
