Zoran Nikolic, a member of the HQ for Emergency Situations, tells Telegraf.rs that the situation is under control.
"The measurements taken showed that the concentration, at least as far as the city of Pirot is concerned, is zero, so I hope that the danger has passed. There is no need to panic," he said.
However, ordinary citizens are still afraid.
"We've been informed that there was an ammonia spill. It's best to protect oneself. I have important things to do, that's why I came to the city, otherwise I wouldn't even go outside. I'm worried, I'm afraid of poisoning. There's not a lot of people who've ventured outdoors, it's better to be careful," says local resident Todor Petrovic.
