A strong storm accompanied by hail that hit the municipality of Ariljetwo days ago has caused local authorities to declare an emergency situation there.

"A terrible storm hit our municipality on Saturday, it caused great damage to road infrastructure, many agricultural households, many cars were destroyed, not to mention the crops themselves, above all raspberry orchards, where the harvest in is full swing.

It is precisely because of this that today we made the decision to declare an emergency situation in a part of the territory of our municipality, namely in Severovo, Radobudja and Tresnjevica local self-government units," Arilje Municipality President Predrag Maslar told Tanjug.

He added that the local government cannot deal with the consequences of the storm alone, but will seek help from the Government of the Republic of Serbia and relevant ministries.

Two major "supercell" storms previously hit Serbia last week - first on Wednesday, and then on Friday, the latter claiming three lives, in addition to widespread material damage.
