The Belgian authorities have reported that residue of the pesticide formatenate was found in frozen strawberries originating from Serbia.

This was was announced on the website of EU's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).

According to the report, the consumption of this fruit can pose a serious risk to human health, which is why the procedure for informing EU member states has been initiated.

This is not the first time that problems with fruit shipments from Serbia have been reported by Belgium - earlier this year, traces of cadmium were discovered in frozen raspberries, which was also announced by RASFF.

Competent institutions in Serbia and EU countries carry out further checks and procedures in accordance with food safety standards.
