Police Director Dragan Vasiljevic addresses public from Palace of Serbia
In an address from the Palace of Serbia in New Belgrade, Police Director Dragan Vasiljevic gave an overview of Sunday's police activities related to public gatherings.
He noted that a large number of public gatherings organized by the Center for Social Stability were held in 95 locations, with 103,305 citizens in attendance.
This is the assessment given by the police officers on the ground. No gatherings were held in the four locations that had been registered. These rallies are held by citizens opposed to months-long anti-government protests.
"From the aspect of police action, everything went well. We had one isolated incident in Novi Sad where an argument and a fight broke out between several people, with the quick intervention of the police the incident was resolved in about 20 seconds. This incident did not affect the public gathering in Novi Sad," he said.
Vasiljevic added that in other locations, everything went without incidents, problems or any need for interventions.
He stressed the importance of registering any gatherings ahead so that the police can properly secure them.
"We call on citizens to comply with the regulations and laws of the Republic of Serbia and coordinate all their activities so that they do not endanger the rights of others," said Vasiljevic.
