Unknown perpetrators have desecrated one of the two chapels at the Serbian Orthodox cemetery in Pristina by breaking the windows and doors.

Broken glass is scattered throughout the interior of the chapel, and there is noticeable moisture in one part of the structure.

The attack on the chapel occurred despite the fact that the entrance to the cemetery is monitored by an employee from a local maintenance company and that the large gate at the entrance is locked with a padlock.

Next to the cemetery itself, a bridge is being constructed, which is why the fence along a railway has been removed, so everyone has access to it.

The chapel has been desecrated before, but was in recent years restored and protected.

The second, newer chapel at the Orthodox cemetery in Pristina is not in any better condition, and after 1999 was often used as a public toilet.

The latest attack on the chapel at the Serbian Orthodox cemetery in Pristina marks continued destruction of the largest Orthodox cemetery in Kosovo and Metohija.

Previously demolished tombstones are visible throughout the cemetery. The perpetrators of these crimes have never been found.

Before the conflict in 1999, about 40,000 Serbs lived in Pristina, while today only a handful remain.
