Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petkovic said today that a Serb List victory (in Serb areas) in Sunday's elections in the province of Kosovo and Metohija is of crucial importance for the survival of the Serb people there.

Serb List's victory would mean winning the 10 seats in the Assembly in Pristina guaranteed for the Serb community. Petkovic stressed that this is the only way for that party to continue fighting for the interests of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija.

"The victory of the Serb List is among other things a guarantee of the continuation of the comprehensive assistance of the Serbian state to the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija and the continuation of further regular payments, salaries, pensions, and new jobs, as well as building infrastructure and capital investments. In fact, the victory of the Serb List is a barrier to (Albin) Kurti's terror and his anti-Serb policy," Petkovic told RTS.

He stressed that when one looks at who the prime minister of the provisional institutions of Pristina, Kurti, supports and who he attacks, it becomes quite clear who stands for the interests of the Serb people in the autonomous province of Kosovo and Metohija and who truly fights for them.

"President Aleksandar Vucic and the Serb List are the main targets of the Pristina regime and Kurti. Because President Vucic with his policy takes care of each and every Serb in Kosovo and Metohija and fights for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country. On the other hand, when Kurti supports (Nenad) Rasic, when Kurti supports 'blockaders' (anti-government protesters) here in central Serbia, it's clea that they are working directly against the interests of the Serb people and the Serbian state. They are actually working to weaken our country. It's quite transparent," said Petkovic.

He added that there is nothing Kurti did not do to try to ban the Serb List and prevent that party from participating in the elections, and that "a book could be written about that."

However, Petkovic noted that despite all the problems and difficulties, the Serb List managed to survive, strengthen and ensure participation in the upcoming elections.

"This is the third election cycle in less than a year (in Kosovo and Metohija). It's certainly not a simple or easy situation, but among other things, it speaks to the fact that since February there has been a serious political crisis in Kosovo and Metohija, in Pristina, and that's why Kurti is extra nervous. For him, these elections are now a matter of life and death, in the political sense. So, it's important that all Serbs vote in these elections and listen to President Aleksandar Vucic urging them to vote for the Serb List, because only the Serb List will continue to fight for the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija. Rasic will certainly not do that, nor will anyone else who works directly in favor of Pristina's interests," said Petkovic.
