IDENTITY OF BOXER SUSPECTED OF BRUTAL MURDER REVEALED: Details of horrific torture on farm near Vrbas
A horrific crime that rocked Serbia's norther province of Vojvodina yesterday got its epilogue thanks to the swift police reaction who arrested the suspects - but new details from the investigation reveal the gruesome details about the murder of 55-year-old Aleksandar S. from Odzaci.
According to latest information, the primary motive for the unprecedented brutality exhibited by murder suspects M.D. (43) and Z.K. (28) was - an unpaid debt.
Although a family dispute was initially suspected, the investigation established that the suspects planned to lure Aleksandar S. into a deadly trap. Using the excuse of needing paid transportation, they got the victim to let them in his vehicle.
However, as soon as they were on the road, M.D., better known by the nickname "Bokser" ("Boxer"), started to aggressively demand money, accusing Aleksandar of outstanding debt toward him. Through coercion and threats, they forced him to turn off the main road into an isolated farm in the vicinity of the town of Vrbas, which would soon become the scene of horrific torture.
Victim's face crushed beyond recognition
Sources close to the investigation say that the suspects' exhibited unrestrained rage. Once on the farm, they tied the unfortunate man to a pole using a car tire, additionally fixing his hands with shoelaces.
A brutal beating followed. It is suspected that M.D. and Z.K. took turns beating the victim with a blunt and heavy object, demanding that he hand over everything he had to them. Due to the force of the blows, the victim's face was completely crushed and disfigured to such an extent that identification was not possible immediately upon the discovery of the body.
"The scene was horrific. The victim had been completely powerless, tied to a pole, while they were assaulting him savagely. There are clear signs that Aleksandar was fighting to stay alive with all his might, before he was left to suffocate with a noose tied around his neck," the source has told the press.
Robbery as the final act
After making sure that the victim was no longer responsive, the suspects showed extreme composure. Instead of fleeing the scene, they robbed the deceased of all his possessions. They took his car, wristwatch and all the jewelry he was wearing.
Investigators discovered that the suspects sold the stolen valuables and the vehicle on the same day, trying to get rid of the evidence quickly and cash in on their crime. However, thanks to the efficient operational work of the police in Novi Sad and Sombor, both were located and arrested during the night, and all stolen items were found.
Legal consequences
The body of Aleksandar S. has been transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in order to precisely determine the cause of death through an autopsy - whether the fatal injuries were those on his head, or if he died from aspyxiation, due to the position in which he was tied.
M.D. and Z.K. were placed in police custody that can last up 48 hours, after which they will be brought before the Higher Public Prosecutor in Sombor, along with a criminal complaint accusing them of aggravated murder committed in a cruel manner for material gain.
Given the degree of brutality involved in the murder, and the motive, this offense, if proven, carries with it the most severe punishment provided by the law of the Republic of Serbia - life in prison.
