Serbian Army Chief of General Staff's Council meets in Belgrade: Security situation in region was on agenda
A meeting of the Council of the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Army was held today in the Banjica 2 Barracks in Belgrade.
The current security situation in the region was discussed.
At the session, where other issues of importance for the functioning and improvement of the capabilities of the Serbian Army were also discussed, the focus was on the intensified activities of Albania, Croatia, and the provisional institutions of self-government in Pristina to strengthen their military alliance, which represent a gross violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and Military-Technical Agreement signed in Kumanovo (in 1999).
It was concluded that a meeting of the Chiefs of General Staff of two NATO countries (Albania and Croatia), along with representatives of the provisional institutions of self-government in our southern province, represents a serious security challenge that is clearly directed against the Republic of Serbia and imposes the need on the Serbian Army to continue with the accelerated strengthening of the country's defense capabilities and remain a strong deterrent.
In this sense, concrete measures and tasks have been defined in order to monitor the development of the security situation and the preparedness of the Army to respond in a timely manner and protect the citizens and national interests of the Republic of Serbia.
The Serbian Army remains committed to preserving peace and stability in the region and further developing its ability to deter potential military threats.
To this end, in line with the order of the Commander-in-Chief and the President of the Republic, and the tasks resulting from the analysis of the situation, operational and functional capabilities, the Serbian Army has intensified its activities that will significantly improve the defensive power in the near future and provide capabilities greater than the total capabilities of the said military alliance.
