A meeting between the delegations of Serbia and Georgia was held today in the government building in Tbilisi, after which President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic addressed a news conference together with Georgian PM Irakli Kobahidze.

Kobahidze pointed out that Serbia has an excellent leader, who does his best to protect the country and that it is his greatest honor to host Vucic.

"This is the first presidential visit to Georgia and I am convinced that it will be an incentive for the countries to deepen their relations. There is respect between Serbia and Georgia and a long tradition between the peoples, and I have to highlight Vucic's special efforts to make Serbia a country that takes care of cultural heritage in a stable manner," said Kobahidze.

He thanked Vucic for supporting Georgia's sovereignty and added that Georgia strongly supports Serbia's territorial integrity.

"I am glad that we discussed topics of key interest for our shared future and that we will intensify bilateral visits, and Vucic's decision to open an embassy in Georgia is of great importance," the prime minister said.

Kobakhidze added that a free trade agreement will be signed in order to deepen cooperation between Georgia and Serbia.

"It raises relations to a new level," he said.

Aleksandar Vucic said that the Serbian people perceive Georgians not only as friendly, but also as a brotherly people, and pointed out that we must build ties with Georgia going forward.

"I am very happy that, 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Georgia, I am the first president to make an official visit to this beautiful country. I am honored by your exceptional hospitality and endlessly grateful for it. We perceive Georgia not only as a friendly, but also as a brotherly nation," Vucic said during the joint press conference.

Vucic noted the long-standing shared Orthodox Christian traditions, and that he was especially happy that Shio III, the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, granted him an audience.

"But I could also understand the gaze into the future and the ties we must build in the future. Thank you, dear friend, for the fact that always and in every place, wherever we meet, on the sidelines of the European Political Community, all other meetings throughout Europe and the world, we always understand each other's policies," said Vucic, addressing the prime minister of Georgia.

The meeting earlier in the day was also attended by Serbian Minister of Agriculture Dragan Glamocic and Minister of Internal and Foreign Trade Jagoda Lazarevic.

President Vucic will on Tuesday also meet with Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili, and after that he will visit the Kakheti region.

Vucic has been on an official visit to Georgia since Monday. On the first day of the visit he met with President Mikheil Kavelashvili, as well as with His Holiness Shio III, the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia.
