Vucevic: Verdict against Thaci and the others does not cover a large part of crimes committed against Serbs

Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) leader Milos Vucevic says that the public in Serbia should carefully consider what has been included in the verdict against Hashim Thaci and the three other accused former leaders of the so-called KLA ("Kosovo Liberation Army"), adding that a good part of the verdict does not refer to the crimes committed against Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija.

As he was talking to citizens in Temerin, Vucevic noted that this is a legally and politically very sensitive topic and assessed that it would be irresponsible to draw conclusions without knowing the legal system and mechanisms within which the proceedings were conducted.

"Most people, including those from the legal profession, do not know all those systems and mechanisms within the institutional process used in the trial of Thaci and the KLA gang. I see that at first there was euphoria in Serbia because of those verdicts, but I'm afraid that people didn't understand that a good part did not apply, that is, that no conviction was passed for crimes against the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija," said Vucevic.

He added that, in his opinion, the issue of the status of so-called of Kosovo, as well as the question of the nature of the former KLA was avoided, and added that because of this one should be careful when evaluating the first-instance verdict.

Vucevic also indicated the possibility of a further review of the verdict in the upcoming stages of the procedure, recalling previous cases before international courts in which the first-instance decisions were changed.

"I'm afraid it's possible, I hope not, but I'm afraid it's possible," said Vucevic.

He added that he was particularly concerned that Thaci and others were not convicted for a key part of the crimes committed against the Serb population in Kosovo and Metohija.
