Belgrade Mayor Sapic says he will sue Councilor Micic, her husband, and Kreni Promeni Movement for defamation

Belgrade Mayor Aleksandar Sapic spoke today to address an incident involving Belgrade City Council member Tatjana Micic from the Kreni Promeni Movement, and apologized to the citizens of the Serbian capital "for allowing himself to enter into such a conversation", but announced that he will sue Micic and her husband, and the said movement.

Sapic told a press conference that he will do so because of a series of lies that have been told about him with the aim of discrediting and defaming him, as well as the values he lives by.

Asked whether he will apologize to Micic considering that she was "injured in the city where he is the mayor", Sapic said that he can apologize to all Belgraders for allowing himself to get involved in a situation that led to such an outcome.

"I can't apologize to a person I didn't hurt. And I'm very sorry if she was hurt, I'm very sorry for Tatjana Micic, and I hope she'll be fine. And if she has been hurt, I'd like it to be established how she was hurt," the mayor said.

Sapic stressed that he cannot apologize to a person for something he did not do, adding that he never intended to hurt her in any way.

"I repeat once again, especially not a woman, because, first of all, that is neither masculine nor chivalrous, and it's quite cowardly. And you know what, I may not be too smart or well-read. But I don't consider mysel a coward, just so you know," he said.

Sapic said that he saw Micic for the first time last night, as Micic, as a member of the Bezanijska Kosa choir, came in front of his house along with other activists, which is why he asked why she was bringing people in front of his home.

Sapic stressed that he will not allow such situations to be used for political purposes.

"I don't know who hit her, whether her husband hurt her in that commotion. I know that I did not touch her, except for that first movement, so that I could defend myself from him. Precisely so that what is presented as having happened, would not happen. And whether her jaw was broken, I don't know that. I was at the police last night, the police were looking for her. The police, as far as I know, did not receive any statements from them last night," said the mayor.
