Man CONVICTED 29 times gets into SUV drunk and kills young Marko: Prosecutor reveals details to Telegraf

Drunk behind the wheel of a powerful BMW SUV, with as much as 1.70 permilles of alcohol in his blood and a horror traffic record of as many as 29 misdemeanor convictions, Nikola Lukic (38), a well-known entrepreneur and owner of a butcher's shop in Uzice, on September 9 in that town crashed into and killed 21-year-old motorcyclist Marko Tosic.

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office (VTJ) in Uzice has officially launched an investigation into this tragedy that brought the city to its feet, and the suspect faces up to 15 years in prison.

It was confirmed for our portal by VJT in Uzice that proceedings are being conducted against Lukic for the criminal offense of aggravated offense against public traffic safety.

"The order to conduct an investigation against the suspect N.L. was based on Article 297 in connection with Article 289th of the Criminal Code, for which a prison sentence of five to 15 years is prescribed," the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Uzice told Telegraf.rs.

The prosecutor's office specified for our portal what actions have been taken so far:

"Suspect N. L. presented his defense before the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Uzice. The toxicology report has been submitted, and an autopsy was ordered of the victim. In the following period, the questioning of witnesses is planned," said the police in Uzice.

Shocking traffic record: 29 convictions

During the pre-investigation procedure, shocking data emerged about the suspect's previous behavior in traffic.

"The obtained data shows that the suspect was previously convicted for misdemeanors 29 times according to the Law on Road Traffic Safety. At the time of the traffic accident, a protective measure banning him from driving was not in force against the defendant, but it had been previously imposed on him as a sanction in misdemeanor proceedings," concluded the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Uzice.

Suspect crossed into opposite lane and collided with motorcyclist directly

According to the results of the investigation so far and unofficial information, Nikola Lukic from Uzice, the owner of a local butcher shop, caused this horrific accident on September 19.

He was driving a BMW SUV in a state of heavy intoxication, when he crossed into the opposite lane and crashed directly into Marko Tosic from Lunovo Selo, who was riding a Yamaha motorcycle.

Marko soon died from his injuries in the General Hospital in Uzice.

The investigation is continuing, and after witnesses are heard and all medical and traffic expert reports are complete, the prosecution will make a decision on the further steps and the possible filing of an indictment.
