Scabies appear in schools in Uzice: Institute for Public Health makes urgent announcement

"We were informed by the Uzice Healthcare Center about the increased number of scabies cases among students in primary and secondary schools in the area of the City of Uzice. Scabies have also been confirmed in two school-age children who attend secondary school in Uzice, and an epidemiological investigation is underway. By the way, scabies was diagnosed in the first half of the year in all schools in the city," said the head of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention at the Institute for Public Health Protection in Uzice, Dr. Aleksandra Andric.
She adds that, according to the Rulebook on Reporting Infectious Diseases, scabies is not reported to the Institute for Public Health in an individual report. Only a scabies epidemic in a collective is reported in order to implement measures to prevent the spread of the infectious disease.
"We immediately sent instructions to the school sdministration to forward to the schools on how to implement the measures," said Andric.
The school administration informed the schools about the appearance of scabies among school children, and the schools called on parents to monitor the health of their children and, if they notice symptoms that could indicate this infectious disease, to seek medical advice.
