The tunnel would connect Francuska and Kamenička Streets, starting with the area where Faculty of Economics is seated and all the way to Dorćol area.

- Although the building had long begun, the technology of that time did not allow for it to be completed. With today's technological advancements, such a project would not pose a big problem - said the Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic.

According to the official information, Gavrilo Princip Street had all the works started, however, given there were some groundwater and landslides problems, the project was stopped and all the machinery diverted to the construction of New Belgrade.

Near the large intersection, close to Alexander Nevsky Church in Dorćol, an exit out of the tunnel was to take place. This tunnel would connect Karaburma with New Belgrade and Zemun.

Following the tunnel, Venizelos Street would lead vehicles to Sava amphitheater and eventually to the bridge crossing on the left side of the basin. There would be a road built, also – connecting Belgrade to Obrenovac road.

At that time the plan was solid but it never saw the light of day. Sixty years ago the construction site got closed with the large part of the tunnel walled. The first ten meters of it are still used today, though, holding a car-wash service.
