Goran Markovic has been arrested in Zagreb on a warrant issued by the Serbian judiciary, on criminal charges of tax evasion, the website Jutarnji.hr is reporting.

Markovic was in the past the producer and host of TV Pink's most popular shows at the time, "Nemoguca misija" ("Mission Impossible"), and "Rikoset" ("Ricochet").

On Wednesday, Markovic was brought before a competent judge of the Zagreb County Court, who ordered him remanded in extradition prison.

According to Serbian media, Markovic and his best man, former politician and show business manager Sasa Mirkovic, were the subjects of a police operation, code-named "Setac" ("Walker") in Serbia eight years ago. Markovic spent some time in custody at the time.

The prosecution in Serbia charged them with organizing a fictitious business through the company Media Wizards - that is, with tax evasion and money laundering.

According to Serbian authorities, Markovic, as the responsible person of the said firm, falsely portrayed procurement of services from companies controlled of members of a criminal group that was exposed in 2010. Aabout seven million dinars wer siphoned off thanks to fictitious invoices. Markovic was accused of avoiding paying taxes to the state in the amount of some 2.5 million dinars.

Goran Markovic, aka Pikaso, fled Serbia in October 2017, while a warrant for his arrest was issued in January 2018.

There had been speculation that he took refuge in Macedonia, along with Mirkovic - who has had a number of other court proceedings  launched against him in Serbia. But in the end, as reported by Serbian media, Mirkovic was arrested in Budva, Montenegro last summer and extradited to Belgrade, while Markovic now "fell" in Zagreb. The competent court has yet to decide on his extradition to Serbia.
