Brnabic: Serbia donates 2 million euros towards development of coronavirus vaccine

Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic participated in the international online conference "Coronavirus Global Response" on the occasion of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The conference was organized under the auspices of the European Commission with the aim of raising funds for the fight against the pandemic caused by the Covid-19 disease - and above all, funds for testing and prevention.

Serbia will donate 2 million euros towards the develop the Covid-19 vaccine and support the World Health Organization in the fight against the pandemic, the prime minister said, specifying that one million euros will be allocated for the development of the vaccine and the other to fund the World Health Organization.

"I am very, very happy that we are united in solidarity against the common enemy Covid-19. We are grateful for the help the EU has given us in these difficult times and I hope we will all see the light at the end of the tunnel," said Brnabic.

The prime minister stressed that it is an honor and a pleasure for Serbia to participate in this project together with its European partners and to contribute to the global efforts to combat the pandemic.

She said that our country remains committed to partnering with the European Union, that it will share its scientific knowledge and achievements with European and partners around the world, and that it hopes that citizens and national economies will successfully overcome the current crisis.

Brnabic thanked EC President Ursula von der Leyen for launching such a campaign and bringing together the world's top leaders in the fight against a global health crisis that calls for a global response. And she finished her address by greeting the participants in the conference with a quote from the Star Wars movies, "force be with you."

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, European Council President Charles Michel, World Health Organization President Tedros Gebrejesus, German Chancellor Angela Merker, French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, British PM Boris Johnson and many others spoke at the event.
