Dr. Tiodorovic responds to Nestorovic, who said we should all get infected: Virus has not weakened

Epidemiologist Professor Doctor Branislav Tiodorovic, a member of the Government's coronavirus Crisis HQ, warned today that coronavirus had not weakened, but also stated that the epidemic is weakening and that fewer people have signs of the disease, while emergency measures have not been abolished with the abolishing of a state of emergency.

He told TV Prva that there are fewer sources of infection and described the situation once again as the end of the first half.

"But we have to wait for the second half, we have to see what is going to happen in June, whether we will be as tenacious as we are in sports, and then to really beat that tough and terrible opponent," said Tiodrovic.

Asked about Dr. Branimir Nestorovic saying that we should all get infected, which has caused controversy among public, Tiodrovic said that this is Nestorovic's own position as a clinician, while he is an epidemiologist, and that everyone is responsible for their statements and prognoses.

Tiodorovic said that the point of view of international and domestic epidemiologists is that measures must be applied as long as the epidemic lasts and while there are sources of infection, and patients.

"Everything that Nestorovic said is his stance, it is always more difficult for clinicians in the sense that they have to diagnose and treat. We epidemiologists look at the total population and monitor what is happening in the population, and there are unexpected things there," said Tiodorovic.

He sad that clinicians see what is the tip of the iceberg, while epidemiologists see far below.

"Are variations on the topic such as Nestorovic said, that we all should get infected, that can relate to children, young people, and even that is a question. We are eceiving contradictory reports from those countries, from those scientific circles that follow it all over the world, there are other interpretations as well,"said Dr. Tiodorovic.

He said that the epidemiological situation in Serbia can be assessed as uncertain, but that it is under control.

"It should stay that way if we respect to the measures," said Tiodorovic.

He added that we will have the situation completely under control by the end of May, but also warned that we can spoil that if we do not adhere to the measures, and that special attention should be paid to public transport and air transport once it is reestablished.
