Lightning probably struck coach Stefan directly: Doctors fighting to save his life

The coach of the youth categories of the Football Club Jagodina, Stefan Pavlovic, who was struck by lightning on a football pitch in Jagodina on Tuesday, was yesterday transpoirted to the VMA - and as we have unofficially learned, he is in a very difficult condition.

Until yesterday, he was treated at the General Hospital in Jagodina, where he received treatment from a consulting team of doctors from various fields.

He was on a ventilator and in induced coma.

Yesterday, at around 2 pm, Pavlovic was transferred to the Military-Medical Academy.

"He's in serious condition. He is at VMA'states Clinic for Emergency Internal Medicine," said our source from this health institution.

Pavlovic was struck by lightning on Tuesday at around 6:40 pm. When he was taken to the hospital in Jagodina at around 7 pm, he was clinically dead.

Yesterday, the news about his health condition gave hope, because we were unofficially told at the hospital in Jagodina that his breathing and heart rate were good, even though he was in artificial, induced coma.

However, he was sent to the Military-Medical Academy for treatment.

"It has been agreed to send the patient to the Military-Medical Academy in Belgrade, but in order for the patient to be transported, he had to have stable vital functions," the head of the Emergency Service of the Jagodina Hospital, Dr. Vladimir Nedeljkovic, told the centralmedia.rs portal before Pavlovic was transported.

He said that he expects the patient to react to the therapy he is receiving.

Doctors who took part in his treatment in Jagodina said that the lightning probably hit him directly, taking into account the injuries to his body and especially to the chest.

What happened was a massive electrical discharge, and the question is what the brain's response will be.
