At yesterday's session, the Government of the Republic of Serbia appointed Arno Gujon (Arnaud Gouillon) as the acting director of the Directorate for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region, which is an administrative body within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Gouillon is the founder of non-governmental organizations Solidarity for Kosovo and another dedicated to higher birth rates and remaining of young people in Serbia ("Inicijativa za natalitet i ostanak mladih u Srbiji"). He carried out numerous campaigns to help the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija, and was active in spreading the truth about the events in the former Yugoslavia, the Ministry said in a statement.

He is the author and co-author of four books about Serbia and Kosovo and Metohija and has won numerous high recognitions in Serbia and in the Serb Republic (Republika Srpska), including the Order of Saint Sava of the first degree, the Order of Njegos of the first degree, and the Gold Medal of the President of Serbia for his merits.

"I will work for the country I chose with my heart"

I will work even harder for the country I chose with my heart, said the French humanitarian on the occasion of the decision of the Government of Serbia to appoint him as the acting director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs's directorate for cooperation with the diaspora and Serbs in the region.

Gouillon wrote on his Instagram account that this appointment is an honor for his family, but also a great responsibility for him.

"I no longer represent only myself or my humanitarian organization, but the state of Serbia," Gouillon wrote and added that he will be able to work even more, better and more efficiently for the benefit of the country he chose with his heart.

"When I read the basic goals of the Directorate that I will manage, I did not hesitate for a long time whether to accept," Gouillon stressed.

Citing preservation and development of the spiritual, national and cultural independence of the Serb people outside the homeland, improving the position of the diaspora and Serbs in the region, economic and cultural networking with Serbia, as well as preserving the Serbian language and Cyrillic script, Gouillon said that is all worth fighting for, even when the fight seems unfair.

"Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija, with whom I spent 16 years of my life, taught me by their example that you should never give up," Gouillon wrote and added that a huge job awaits him, but that his energy is even greater.

In his announcement, he thanked the Government of Serbia, Minister Selakovic and President Vucic for the trust they have shown him as well as for the opportunity to work for Serbia with the highest state leadership.

"Thank you all for the huge support you have been constantly providing me since I moved to Serbia in 2012," Gouillon concluded.
