President: I spoke to Novak again, he asked for only one thing, I'm afraid the abuse will continue

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic once again referred to the scandalous situation in Australia, where the authorities have detained Novak Djokovic and denied him a visa.

On Wednesday night, Vucic said on his Instagram account that he had spoken on the phone with Novak Djokovic after the tennis star was given back his phone after spending six hours detained at the airport. At that point, the president told Djokovic that the state of Serbia would do everything to help end the harassment of the world's top tennis player.

Now, when asked by reporters, he again commented on the situation to stress that he spoke with Novak again and that he only asked Serbia to help him get out of the horrible hotel where he is currently staying with immigrants.

"What we could do is, I spoke with him last night first, this morning for the second time, in accordance with the agreements we have, (Serbian PM) Ana Brnabic is just on the phone, pleading for one thing, to allow Novak before the final court decision on Monday to leave that infamous hotel and stay in a house he rented, to be able to move. That is what Novak has asked for from his country, it is our obligation to protect our citizens. I talked to him last night and this morning, our ministry is involved."

"What is not fair is that there is a political witch-hunt led by the prime minister of Australia. Other tennis players were allowed in (under the same conditions), Novak Djokovic was not. It's clear to everyone what this is about, I have no problem telling the truth, my job is to protect the citizens of Serbia and to protect the truth. I also spoke with Novak Djokovic's father, but I'm afraid that this kind of political abuse will continue, because they cannot defeat him otherwise," said Vucic.

Take a look at the unreal scenes in front of the hotel where Djokovic is locked up:
