Dodik: Serb Republic is preparing a new law in response to Inzko's

The Serb member of the Presidency of BiH, Milorad Dodik, confirmed that the Serb Republic is busy preparing a law banning the naming as genocidal of communities or national groups in BiH, and that document could be in the BiH Parliament in early February, Vecernje Novosti writes today.

As stated, the said law proposes to punish with five years imprisonment anyone who refers to certain communities, i.e., Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the Serb Republic (RS), the Federation of BiH (FBiH), Brcko or cantons as genocidal.

Dodik said that the Serb Republic wants the amendments to the Criminal Code imposed by former High Representative Valentin Inzko to be withdrawn.

"There is no doubt that it is unacceptable to us. Everything that Inzko imposed was aimed at establishing it, accepting it, and then an avalanche of accusations that the RS and the Serb people are allegedly genocidal would start, after which a political platform would spread around the world - that what is genocidal cannot even exist," said Dodik.

The key to adopting the mentioned solution or opening a debate in the BiH Parliament is now with the parties from the entity of the Federation of BiH, primarily Bosniaks, which should decide whether to repeal the imposed amendments to the BiH Criminal Code introduced by Valentin Inzko and support a debate on a new legal solution in the Parliament of BiH.

The head of the Serb Club in the BiH Parliament, Nenad Stevandic, told Novosti that it is realistic to adopt the proposal coming from the RS entity, because it is an act that treats all peoples equally, ethnic groups in BiH, but also BiH entities and society.

"If there is an understanding for equality in the Federation of BiH and the Bosniak political leadership, the legal solution will be adopted in the Parliament of BiH. But, if they want to continue targeting one people and entity, then it will be a confirmation that there is no conversation with FBiH regarding equality," said Stevandic.
