Novak still No. 1 with more ATP points, but now the horror follows: Impossible mission to remain at the top

This is the state of affairs at least until the end of the year, and a heavy blow follows after Wimbledon, where he will lose 2,000 points and fall further on the list

Novak Djokovic started his 373rd week as the best tennis player in the world, and he will remain that until next week.

The first ATP ranking released after the French Open shows that Novak is still No. 1 with 8,770 points, which is 110 more than he had last week. The reason is that the points from last year's French Open will be deleted for Novak and everyone else only next Monday, June 13.

Currently, the second is Daniil Medvedev with 8160 points, followed by Alexander Zverev with 7795, French Open champion Rafael Nadal with 7525, who overtook Stefanos Tsitsipas in fourth.

This is not the only change in the Top 10, as now Norwegian Casper Ruud is in sixth, who reached that spot after playing in the final in Paris, thus overtaking Carlos Alcaraz and Andrey Rublev.

When it comes to Serbian tennis players, Miomir Kecmanovic remained 31st, Filip Krajinovic progressed eight places and is now 47th, Laslo Djere is 54th, and Dusan Lajovic 69th.

As for next week's ATP rankings, Novak will fall to third place, as he will lose 2,000 points because he won the title in Paris last year. The first will be Daniil Medvedev with 7,800 points, the second Alexander Zverev with 7,075, and Novak the third with 6,770. Rafael Nadal also seriously approached him and will now have 6,525 points.

So, for now, reaching the absolute record in the number of weeks spent as the top ranked tennis player in both men's and women's competition remains unattainable for Novak, since he needs four weeks yet to break Steffi Graf's record of 377 weeks.

What is also working against Novak is the fact that this season players will win no points by playing at Wimbledon, because the ATP decided to punish the tournament for banning Russians and Belarus players, but those who won points last year will still lose them, and that means another 2,000 for Djokovic, last year's winner. Therefore, after Wimbledon he will additionally fall on the list and according to the current state of afairs will be in 7th place.

Considering that he will also be defending the US Open final, the Paris Masters title and six points from the ATP final, it is almost impossible for Novak to return to the top of the ATP list by the end of the year, especially since some other competitors are not defending a serious number of points.
