This couple has nested on the same chimney in Pozega for 3 years: Locals watch over them and 4 adorable chicks

Storks are animals that mate for life and always nest in the same place, unless some circumstance forces them otherwise

Storks have settled on a chimney of a building used by the Technical School of Pozega and the St. Sava Grammar School. In their home, on a tall chimney, a pair of birds lives with their four chicks.

As Dusko Vranic explains, the birds first built a nest there three years ago and have been returning ever since.

"When they were here two years ago, I also filmed them with a drone, they had three or four chicks. After about 15 to 20 days, the chicks disappeared. They literally disappeared, someone stole them. I looked around the nest, they were not thrown out. Sometimes it happens that a stork, if there is great drought and lack of food, throws out one chich to be able to feed the rest. However, all three or four cubs disappeared, someone stole them. Only a human could reach them. It is high up there, no animal could reach them, and they were already too big to be taken away by another bird. We wanted to set up video surveillance, but gave up because of the school," Dusko told Telegraf.rs.

Last year, the storks returned and got four chicks again. This time, the locals paid more attention. The eggs hatched and the young birds eventually flew away. The eggs hatch in late April and the birds fly to Africa in mid-July. The storks again return to their nests in Serbia in April.

"This year, the nest was also successful, there are four of them. They are already grown, they will start flying in about a month and in about a month and a half they will probably go to Africa. I visit them every day, so that no one would bother them. This year we made a metal nest, to set it up for them. However, we gave up on it. We asked the people from the Grammar School not to light furnaces because they arrived in April. The director of the Technical School also helped us. This year, the storks made a nest in the same place again, and they will probably return there in the coming years if no one disturbs them. They are animals that do not change mates all their lives and always have a nest in the same place, unless some circumstances force them not to," added Dusko.
