Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic said today that he did not discuss the role that the Socialists would have in the new government with the president of Serbia and SNS leader Aleksandar Vucic, but indicated that the SPS and the SNS have a fair relationship, that their joint results are good and that the SPS is ready for continued cooperation.

"That will be the decision of the largest party - the SNS, and it is up to them to dictate the pace and conditions for the formation of a new ruling coalition. However, we are absolutely ready for there being other solutions," Dacic told Tanjug.

When asked what position he expects, Dacic replied that this is irrelevant and that he never had any demands for himself.

He said that he accepted the proposals that came from Vucic himself so that he could help in the best way.

Dacic believes that the goal of the new government should be to work in the best interest of Serbia and have enough political quality to make important strides for the country in the coming period.

"We should use this period of stability for Serbia's further development. The government should give a positive impulse to the development of Serbia, and the path that Serbia will take is already determined - we are going along the path of EU integration while protecting our state and national interests," said Dacic.

He added that he expects the new Serbian National Assembly to be constituted by the end of July.

To the remark that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced the formation of the government by the end of July, Dacic replied that he had said that before elections were repeated several times in Veliki Trnovac.

"I think it's practically impossible to form a government by the end of July. Since we will need at least seven more days until the end of the election process. It is realistic that we go for constituting the parliament by the end of July," Dacic said.
