Vucic: My UN speech attracted a lot of attention because it was different, someone dared to tell the truth

The president spoke from New York

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic spoke today in New York City for the Serbian press. Vucic was there for the 77th UN General Assembly session.

"I talked to Jake Sullivan, according to many, he is America's second man. He is certainly the future of American politics, we also talked about the economy, politics, Kosovo and Metohija, energy. We agreed to focus more on the economy. I also have a number of important meetings, only tomorrow around one or two US time, so in the evening Serbian time, I will finish my duties here and return to Serbia," said Vucic.

He said that he also had a meeting with the president of Iran.

"We dealt with respecting the territorial integrity of Serbia, I am not interested in internal issues. My job is to fight for Serbia, for its integrity."

Vucic also stated that many people congratulated him after his UN General Assembly speech.

"But I was only telling the truth. I am guided by whether we did something good for our country or not. We raised our price and showed that we are capable of fighting for our country.

The speech had twice as many views as that of Zelensky, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. He is certainly a big star here and he is the president of a much bigger country than ours, he is in the center of attention. My speech attracted attention because it was different and because someone so small dared to tell the truth. Last night, some leaders of important countries approached me to congratulate me and say that they had not heard that in the last 10 years. Many people in the world said, 'Yes, that's what we want to hear'.

I am glad that we showed that we are not a handful of grain that any bird can peck at. It is important that they know that we are the ones who spoiled that narrative, when it comes to the story of territorial integrity and sovereignty. The narrative itself and the story itself are more difficult to pass off in the world if there is someone to remind them, that they do not always respect the principles of the UN. That's why they will go for solving the Kosovo issue as soon as possible, but do we have a choice? What should we talk about while it is burning in Kosovo and Metohija? To talk nonsense, platitudes?

I am a political veteran and by I managed to say all that avoiding public criticism, because the words were chosen carefully, I presented the facts.

We will see a major global conflict, but we will look to make sure that Serbia survives."

Non-existent paper

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said this evening that he was "obviously reading a non-existent paper" since EU spokesperson Peter Stano has told Pristina Insight in the meanwhile that the EU "did not see any non-paper, nor did it come from the dialogue team."

Asked if he saw the message from Brussels that there is no non-paper that he talked about recently, Vucic replied: "I must be crazy. I was reading a non-existent paper, and some interlocutors asked me about it."

He said that he did not want to receive that paper because he knows that if the content of it went public, he would be blamed.

"This way I didn't receive the paper, so they know I have nothing to do with its publication," Vucic added.

When asked to comment on the statement of a Self-Determination deputy who said that Kosovo is "ready for attacks and has the weapons to defend itself," Vucic said that Serbia will not go to war, but, we should admire the strength of their equipment and weapons.

"We do our work, they do theirs," he said.

Upon the news that Serbia was placed on the watch list of the global alliance of civil society organizations CIVICUS due to the authorities' "dilemmas" over EuroPride, Vucic said, "let them watch us."

"We're very upset by that news, let them continue to watch us. You try to do everything you can to keep everyone's head on their shoulders, and to be fair and protect people, and then, it goes like that," he added.
