Brnabic: Vucic will be "under barrage fire" in Prague

Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic has assessed that President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic will have extremely difficult meetings at the summit in Prague and that, if one takes into account the fact that Serbia has not imposed sanctions against Moscow, he will be alone against all the other participants.

"In Prague, he will certainly be under brutal attack and barrage fire, he will be exposed to questions - why we did not introduce sanctions, why are we the only ones, what is our foreign policy," said Brnabic and stressed that she would not like to be in the president's shoes.

She added that if we only consider that Serbia is the only country (in Europe) that has not imposed sanctions against Moscow, and has condemned the events in Ukraine, then we see that President Vucic will not be one against 27 leaders in Prague, but alone against 40.

Brnabic added that the question of whether Serbia's positions are in line with European values will also be raised at the summit.

What kind of European values are we talking about, if we look at their promises to North Macedonia, Albania, she wondered. According to Brnabic, they will use everything at their disposal for brutal attacks on Serbia, but, she stressed, luckily Vucic enjoys great respect among EU leaders.

"President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen is always there for us, to listen to us," said Brnabic.

She recalled that while in Japan she had the opportunity to speak with President of the European Council Charles Michel who told her that he understands that it is difficult, but that he is asking that President Vucic be in Prague because no one defends and explains Serbia's position so well.

Michel stressed that they want Serbia's European path to continue, but that it is important for them that Vucic should show up at the summit and explain Serbia's foreign policy because it is something that everyone is monitoring.

She added that the president's statements are significant because then it is easier for Serbia's friends in the EU to defend Serbia's position.

According to her, the meetings will be extremely difficult.

"I wouldn't like to be in his shoes, sometimes you feel like the black sheep... it takes a lot of mental dedication and energy to defend Serbia's positions, to say everything and not give in under pressure, to preserve our decision-making independence," said Brnabic.

The prime minister of Serbia added that great powers have started to selectively apply international law and interpret it however they want.

"On the European continent, the UN Charter broke against the back of Serbia," she reminded and added that it is completely clear NATO carried out an aggression against Serbia, and that every excuse they find as justification speaks to their selective application of international law.
