Sadness overwhelms Vrsac: Mother lays her murdered 2-year-old daughter Petra to rest in a white casket

Petra Budimirovic, 2, has been laid to rest today at 4 pm in a cemetery in Vrsac, northeastern Serbia. Her father Marko murdered her, and then killed himself.

Since Tuesday, when the crime took place, locals in Vrsac have been stunned with grief and pain.

That Tuesday, Suzana received a message from Marko - whom she was divorcing after being subjected to extreme physical abuse - that he was going to "kill the child and then himself." On that very day, the Social Welfare Center in Vrsac granted the killer the right to have custody over the toddler.

When the police arrived, they found two lifeless bodies. The father had drowned his daughter in a bucket of water, and then hanged himself from a chandelier.

Today, the mother sent her daughter to the place of eternal rest. The distraught woman, unable to speak, was seen hugging the white casket.

Next to it, friends and family placed flowers and lit candles.
