Human remains from the old Orthodox cemetery in Kosovska Mitrovica, which were dug up by an Albanian investor last October in order to build a road, were today brought back to the site.

In the presence of a large number of citizens from Kosovska Mitrovica, the remain were returned to the cemetery. A memorial service was led by priest Milija Arsic, and a cross was consecrated.

At the end of October last year, a road was built across the old Serb cemetery, located near the Temple of St. Dimitrije in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica. Heavy machinery was used, tombstones were damaged, while soil containing human remains was scattered everywhere.

That cemetery was used between 1912 to 1945 and there were about 30 graves there.

Because of the digging, several citizens of Kosovska Mitrovica filed criminal charges before the Basic Court in northern Kosovska Mitrovica accusing those responsible of desecration and destruction of graves and human remains.

The so-called Kosovo police questioned a man of Albanian ethnicity related to that case.
