Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petkovic said today that the Battle of Kosare was one of the hardest battles for the Serb nation and that it is our sacred duty to never forget the heroes who gave their lives to defend the fatherland and Kosovo and Metohija.

Kosare is an outpost on the border between Serbia and Albania, in Kosovo and Metohija.

On the 25th anniversary of the beginning of the battle, which started on April 9, 1999 when about 1,500 members of the so-called KLA ("Kosovo Liberation Army"), with the support of Albanian artillery, and NATO warplanes and instructors attacked the area of the outpost, Petkovic said that the heroic defenders "gave what is most valuable, their lives and their youth to defend the fatherland, to defend Kosovo and Metohija."

"Even 25 years after their martyrdom, their young lives shine with the same light. It is our sacred duty to never forget them, and it is only thanks to President Aleksandar Vucic that we foster a culture of remembrance of all those who suffered (for our country)," Petkovic wrote on Facebook.

He added that the Office for Kosovo and Metohija and the Commission for Missing Persons of the Government of the Republic of Serbia requested countless times that Pristina enables a complete search for the Serbs who went missing or died at that outpost, but that the irresponsible authorities in Pristina have not allowed it to this day.

"We will continue to fight for the truth about all our victims and we will never give up!", stressed Petkovic.

The Battle of Kosare started on April 9, 1999, when members of the so-called KLA, supported by Albanian artillery, and NATO aviation and instructors attacked Kosare, located on the Serbian-Albanian border.

The battle lasted 67 days, during which 108 members of the Yugoslav Army (VJ) lost their lives.

Thanks to the soldiers' heroism and superhuman efforts, the border was defended.
