Vucic: I know what European Union thinks about my trip to Moscow: This is Serbia's political will

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said today that he had an open discussion with President of the European Council Antonia Costa about his trip to Moscow for Victory Day, and added that he knows and understands well what many in the EU think about that, but that he conveyed to Costa that Serbia's political will is to be on the European road.

"Serbia's political will is to speed up its integrations, to do its job, to open as soon as possible cluster 3, whether it will be in June or in October, I don't think anyone can tell. The atmosphere, I am convinced now, because of the trip to Moscow, is not so good, but we are on our way to fulfill everything we promised in March and then I believe that in Europe there will be understanding for merit-based progress," Vucic told a news conference after his meeting with Costa in the Palace Serbia in Belgrade.

He added that he believes Serbia will be able to get the green light both for cluster 3 and later for the remaining ones.

"I believe that in a year or so, we will begin to close certain chapters. It is not just a bureaucratic or technical issue, as someone would say, it is, to repeat, a question of the political will, where we want to belong, where we want to be and in every place and always, regardless of the differences that exist regarding the past," said Vucic.

He stated that he hopes that he will finish his mandate as president with Serbia being significantly closer to EU membership than it is today.

"I thank Antonio Costa once again for his visit to Belgrade, for his visit to Serbia, and I believe that we will have good talks on Thursday evening, in Tirana, and on Friday. It will not be easy because of this trip to Moscow, but I believe that in the end it will all be very fruitful," said Vucic.
