Jadar River turns completely red: We find out the real reason and whether people should be concerned

A video taken in Osecina has appeared on social networks, which left many people worried - the Jadar River has turned completely red, any many commenters immediately assumed the worst.

The caption to the video stated that an incident happened at the Austrian fruit processing factory Podgorina Frucht.

Telegraf Biznis contacted the company in order to get an official answer to the question - what exactly colored the river?.

Comany claims: No pollution, problem was technical

The company confirmed that a technical problem occurred on Sunday, more precisely - a power outage in their sour cherry processing plant.

"Our company has a wastewater treatment plant, both mechanical and biological. About 4 million euros were invested seven years ago. What happened on Sunday - and all sorts of things are being posted on social networks, which are not true - is that this plant lost power supply, and that at that moment, (wastewater) from the washing and processing of sour cherries that are in season spilled into the river," the company told us.

The video that is circulating online also shows ducks and fish in the river, which the company said is proof that the river has not been contaminated with anything toxic.

"It is not toxic, it does not cause pollution, or affect the animals. In the video you can see ducks and fish that are alive, it is not true that any poison was released. It was the water used to wash the fruit. The alarm went off at 10 am at the plant, people immediately reacted, a company from Valjevo that services transformer stations arrived, and everything was solved within 15-20 minutes," Podgorina Frucht representatives told Telegraf Biznis.
