A citizen of Sweden who got lost on Suva Mountain last night was found alive and well after a painstaking operation, the Mountain Rescue Service of Serbia (Gorska Sluzba Spasavanja, GSS) has confirmed for Telegraf.rs.

The GSS explained that the man went hiking alone last night and at one point suddenly panicked, took the wrong path and got lost, which is when the whole drama started.

"The good thing is that he knew who he should contact, so we immediately started looking for him. Although it was difficult to locate him, we succeeded. The entire Suva Mountain is inaccessible, but eventaully the search was successfully completed around midnight, when the Swede was safely transported," representatives of the Mountain Rescue Service of Serbia said.

Media reports last night said that GSS rescuers based in Nis had set out to find a citizen of Sweden who got lost on Suva Mountain.
